The ICT4 the Elderly Handbook is a toolkit that helps trainers and students working on digital skills for the elderly.

ICT4 the Elderly is a European initiative that seeks to make older people between the ages of 55 and 75 more digitally competent and aware of some of the many opportunities the Internet has to offer. How? By providing and facilitating an online training environment with pathways for upskilling the digital skills of this segment of citizenship.

The goal of the handbook is to serve as a collaborative documentation space for all participants in the training activities provided. The Online Academy is defined as an open, public space, easily accessible, with useful content (scenarios, educational resources and results) for everyone to reuse. The goal of the initiative is to establish a community of practice for senior citizens’ digital skills.

How does it work?

The project gathers best practices from previous successful projects as part of its preparatory efforts in order to create a training manual and an online school. People between the ages of 55 and 75 will be chosen through an application call after the training materials are prepared and will participate in the piloting as project ambassadors.

The ICT4 the Elderly Handbook will be used for all of these training sessions as a resource, documentation, collaborative editing, and content production hub.

The ICT4 the Elderly Handbook’s main objectives are:

  • assist programme participants in learning and finding information about the different subjects treated in the programme;
  • serve as a forum for participants to share what they have learned with those who are interested in the topics covered in this course.

Content of the Handbook

The content of the Handbook includes the curriculum content used by educators in the organisations that deal with the education of senior citizens, as well as by the elderly themselves, and the serves training activities as an Online Academy.

This learning strategy provides for the teaching content of the ICT 4 the Elderly project, introducing 6 Competences Areas:

  1. (Intentional) digital communication
  2. Digital transactions
  3. Smart living for well-being
  4. Digital collaboration
  5. Security and privacy
  6. Self-organisation

Each of these is further deconstructed into several modules
