Established in 1834, the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) is a multicultural university with over a third of its students and researchers being from outside of Belgium. The ULB is made up of 12 faculties covering all the academic disciplines it offers. It offers almost 40 undergraduate programmes and 250 graduate programmes among which 23 are Master’s programmes taught entirely in English. However, as the ULB is a French-speaking university, most of the courses are delivered in French. It also has 20 partner Doctoral schools with almost 1 600 PhD in progress.
The ULB strives to equip its students with a robust foundation in critical thinking while introducing research to them. This is anchored in its ideological roots around freedom. The ULB specifically aims to foster free inquiry by all through a commitment to keep one’s freedom of conscience as seen on its focus to teaching critical thinking skills.
