The European Cyber Security Challenge 2022, taking place in Vienna from 13 to 16 September, is an initiative by the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) and aims to develop cybersecurity talent across Europe and connecting those with high potential with industry leading organisations.

The increasing need for IT security professionals is commonly known across the world. Many countries have launched national cybersecurity competitions aimed at students, university graduates and non-ICT professionals with a distinct goal to find new and young cyber talent and encourage young people to pursue a career in cybersecurity. The European Cyber Security Challenge (ECSC) encompasses these competitions and brings them to a pan-European level.

Participation in the ECSC is determined by the winners of the national contests that the national European countries host. Similarly, to the ECSC, the national competitions consist of security-related challenges across various domains, which participants solve in order to win points. The individuals with the most points win the competition and gain a place in the national team which goes on to compete at the ECSE.
